The Friends of the Maine State Library was created by Maine State Statute to be a private support organization for the Maine State Library (M.R.S.A. Title 27, Chapter 1, subchapter 1 Section 7). As such, ‘The Friends’ is an independent 501c3 organization that has aligned its goals to help serve the Maine State Library.
While supporting the Maine State Library, the Friends seek to specifically enhance access to quality services for all Maine residents by supporting statewide library initiatives. The Friends will do so creatively and innovatively with inclusivity and integrity. The Friends’ core areas of emphasis and support are: Reading and Literacy; Historical Resources and Digitization; and Public Library Development.
